Why does my dog eat chicken poop? Is it safe or should I be concerned?

Why does our dog eat our chickens feces?

Honestly because it tastes good to her! It's really gross, but some dogs like the taste of feces, including their own. It's not good for them to eat it though, so I would keep Bella away from it as much as possible.

Poppy probably eats the rabbit poop because she likes the taste. It's gross, but true, and many dogs do this. It's not the best thing for her to do, so when you are outside with her, prevent her from eating it. Best of luck.

Apparently something that the cows eat smells good to your dog and therefore Tofy eats it. It is not usually a problem if dogs eat cow poop, but sometimes there could be detrimental bacteria in the poop which could make your dog sick. So it would be better not to let her eat the cow poop.

There is nothing "wrong" with Maria's dining habits--we humans find it gross, but dogs look upon their piles as gourmet meals! Maria is far from alone in this behavior. The best way to stop the habit is to clean up after her immediately, every time she goes. You can also try sprinkling nasty-tasting stuff on it, like hot sauce, vinegar, or pepper. There is a product called Forbid (ask your vet for it), which you add to her food to make the delicacy less appealing. But chances are that as soon as you stop the poop-altering or the Forbid, she'll go right back to her "treats."

What if my puppy eats its own poop? It is red well, so I believe it ate it out of curiosity?
While it is a gross habit , it likely will not harm your puppy. Some puppies will eat their mother's poop to ingest certain intestinal bacteria , and they sometimes retain this habit. I would not worry much about it.

Unfortunately, this is common, although inappropriate and gross behavior in dogs even as adults. If she's on a home cooked diet or a food from a tiny boutique brand, I would be worried she's not getting a balanced diet, however if she's on a reputable dog food (your vet can verify that the one you're using is good or questionable), then it's almost certainly behavioral.

My Boston has started eating poop. I'm not sure why its something that has just started. What can I do? And do you know why?
This is usually just a naughty habit and does not indicated any underlying nutritional problem or concern. The best thing you can do, if she is eating her own poop, it to clean up her feces after every time she goes. It may also be helpful to use a product like Forbid that you sprinkle on her food which helps discourage eating the feces. This is a common problem in dogs, and it is gross but not abnormal. There are a few things you can do to stop this behavior, like feeding a supplement that sometimes makes the stool taste bitter (see a link below). Why does puppy eat poop?
It's very common for puppies and adult dogs to eat poop. Most of the time, they just seem to enjoy the taste - it's not normally an indication of any illness or nutritional deficiency. The best way to prevent it is by picking up the poop before they have a chance to eat it, or by blocking their access to cat litter boxes or other places where they might find some.

Keeping Beast away from the cow poop is a good first step to stopping him from eating it. If he isn't being monitored he should be kept out of areas where it is available. If you're with him and he starts to eat it, calling him off and distracting him with another job to do or a treat or appropriate chew instead is best. As cow poop can carry bacteria and parasites, it is a good idea to make sure Beast gets regular fecal exams done to watch for any potential infections.

It's a gross habit, but many dogs do this and are fine. There could be a couple of reasons why Parce ate his poop. One is a nutritional deficiency in his diet. Make sure you are feeding him a high quality puppy formulated food. Another cause is intestinal worms, which are common in puppies. I would make sure he is up to date on his deworming treatments, giving him one if he is not. Finally, it could be he simply likes the taste.
