How to feed a congested kitten with URI if milk comes out its nose?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 lbs

I am fostering two young neonate kittens about 2 to 3 weeks old. They have URI and one is very very congested. When I try to feed him milk I see it come out his nose no matter how slowly I feed. I am afraid he may aspirate but he is the smallest and needs nutrients from the milk. They have been seen by the shelter vet and prescribed liquid doxycycline for their URI but in the meantime while I wait for that to get the congestion down, What can I do?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding the kittens. Are you bottle feeding or stomach tubing them? It is easier for the milk to come out of the nose with bottle feeding. The shelter could teach you how to stomach tube them as this might help. Good luck!
