Is my senior cat on too many meds for her multiple illnesses?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 7 months old | 4.8 lbs

Hello. My cat has been very ill. She is 10 years old. Her recent blood work showed she is anemic, has thyroid disease, a UTI and my vet thought she may have toxoplasmosis. She is now on steroids, two different antibiotics, and a very small dose of methamazole. Should she be taking so many prescriptions at once? I’ve always trusted my vet, but it seems like a lot. We are also trying to rule out that she doesn’t have cancer because I cannot afford an MRI.

As she is suffering from multiple diseases, it is understandable that she is on many medications. cancer is difficult to diagnose indeed, i would recommend a specialist ultrasound, it is much cheaper than an MRI and can detect many types of cancers as well.
