My cat ate a plant and now her voice is gone. Is this normal?

Is it normal for a cat to lose its voice? My cat was eating a plant (some sort of fern that is not toxic to cats) and it caused an upset stomach. I ended up getting rid of the plant but now my cat’s voice is gone. When she meows nothing comes out. Is this normal?

I am sorry to hear about Chloe! We can see laryngitis or voice loss in cats occasionally for a variety of reasons, including viral infections, nasopharyngeal polyps, or inflammation of the laryngeal area. I suppose perhaps there could have been some inflammation or irritation after vomiting due to the plant. Most often if due to inflammation the laryngitis will resolve in a few days to a week. If at any point Chloe develops diffiuclty breathing, loses her appetite, continues to vomit, or becomes lethargic, then a veterinary exam is recommended. Best of luck to you and Chloe.
