My cat's tail amputation wound looks exposed. Is it healing properly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

My foster cat's tail amputation wound (2 weeks) recently had the scab come off with some flesh exposed, no bleeding or leaking. The foster vet told me over the phone that from my description she sounds like she is healing fine, but can I have a second opinion? The flesh looks like it might have some pus, or it is forming a scab. I haven't notices anything different with her behavior.

It looks like there is good granulation tissue in the wound. Leave it alone, make sure Luna does not lick the wound (e-Collar) and it should heal fine. It may or may not form a scab. If it oozes a lot of yellow or green pus (which it is not at this time), you should take her to the vet for a a recheck.
