My dog has kidney disease. What flea & tick medicine is safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 70 lbs

My dog has kidney disease and is 4 years old. She is being treated and is on a renal diet. She currently is taking Nexgaurd flea and tick medicine. I am looking for the best type of flea and tick medicine to give a dog with kidney disease. Would a topical medicine be better?

None of the flea and tick medicines are excreted by the kidneys, so the kidneys should not be negatively influenced by the tick and flea medicines. Nexgard is a very good flea and tick medicine and I suggest you stick with it.
