My dog's paw cut has a strange growth. Vet or antibiotic cream?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 17 years and 4 months old | 90 lbs

My dog has a cut on his paw pad ... it looks a little like it has grown a spur/wart over the cut. Wondering if I should take him to the vet or of I can try to treat with antibiotic cream first

Antibiotic ointment is only useful in fighting infection. Your dog's pawpad is not infected, so it will not help. This may be an overreaction of the skin when it was healing or a wart. You should have this examined by a veterinarian when or if it starts to bother your dog and he starts licking or chewing it. Otherwise I would leave it alone.
