Why did my calm cat suddenly get aggressive and poop at the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 7 years and 4 months old | 14.8 lbs

Cato has recent comprehensive visit and dental. Of the two cats, he had always been the mild tempered one. Always did well at vet visits. Well, this time around, he pooped himself (exploded, really) and scratched and bit. Should I be concerned?

This is actually a common situation where someone's cat is a sweet angle at home, but gets quite aggressive at the vets. It usually depends on the amount poking and prodding that needs to be done. In this case Cato would have likely had to get an injection and blood draw. While we try to avoid it as much as possible, it's not uncommon for a cat to poop, urinate, bite or scratch when this is happening. I would not be worried if this was the first time this happened, but it would be good to alert the vet staff the next time he goes for a visit. They will likely be more cautious and go slow with him to prevent this from happening again. I hope that helps and all is well with Cato.
