Dog with UTI on amoxicillin: Why is she peeing blood and having accidents?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 30 lbs

Hi, My pug, female, 30 lbs has a UTI. I took her to the vet and they prescribed 250mg of amoxicillin 3 times a day for 10 Days. We started Friday. Yesterday she started messing in the house. She didn’t before the medication. Today she messed again but this morning she peed and it was yellow. And today she peed after her second dose of the day and there is a lot of blood. What should I do?

This is not good. Make sure she drinks a lot and if she still pees blood or bloody urine, take her back to the vet for a recheck. She may need some pain medicine and glucosaminoglycanes to help the lining of the bladder heal.
