Can I remove my dog's cone for walks or feeding after neutering?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 6 days old | 35 lbs

My baby boy just got neutered. He's a 7 month old pitbull/bulldog mix btw. I was just wondering if I could take his cone off while I took him on walks or maybe fed him? I know the importance of the cone and will make sure to watch him like a hawk while its off!! And I will be sure to put it right back on!!! Thank you very much!!

Yes, you can take his cone off while walking and feeding, however every time you take it off and put it back on he has to get used to it again. So he may be more stressed by taking the cone off and putting it back on than if you leave it on. I see that he has a lovely soft cone, so it is not really the rigid cone that gets bumped into everything. If he cannot eat with it on, you can feed him with his bowls elevated.
