My cat is going crazy with his cone after neuter surgery. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | 10 lbs

I just got my cat neutered today. He has been going crazy ever since I brung him home to take the cone off. I have to keep him in his carrier because he won’t atop trying to get it off. It’s hard for him to eat and drink with it on. It looks so big on him. He’s small. What should I do? I feel bad leaving him in the carrier and seeing him going crazy in there.

Most cats do hate wearing the cone at home. It is tough to watch them act in this manner. However, in order to help prevent him from both injuring himself trying to get it off and also keeping him from getting to his incision, it may be best to keep him in a small room like the bathroom for tonight, then call your vet on tomorrow and ask for a sedative to give him at home while he still recovers from surgery. Hopefully he will settle down tonight and not need any medication. Best of luck with your pet Ayden and I hope that he calms down soon! Best wishes and take care.
