Why is my senior cat losing weight, always hungry, and constipated?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 12 years and 9 months old | 6 lbs

Lost weight over last few months. Hungry all the time. Uses litter box but lately a little constipated. Drinks normal most of the time but occasionally too much. Last few day noticed mucus in eyes and yesterday mouth. Not cronic. No diarrhea or vomiting. Want to have an idea before I take him to vet. Thank you.

Noah does need to be examined by the veterinarian and he will need bloodworm and a fecal exam at least. The main causes of these symptoms are hyperthyroidism, kidney disease, diabetes, severe dental disease or severe parasites. The mucus in the eyes and mouth may be unrelated to the other symptoms. It's possible his immune system is run down and so opportunistic infections are occurring. Don't wait to have him examined. All those conditions can be successfully cared for if treated early. I hope this helps and that Noah starts healing quickly.
