My dog suddenly collapsed then recovered. Does he need an emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 27 lbs

Dog was energetic and running around before suddenly collapsing on the ground and letting out a cry. He was down for about 15 minutes before getting up and slowly coming back to normal. It had been about 45 minutes since the incident, and he is now almost completely back to normal. Can I wait to take him in until tomorrow morning, or should he be taken to the 24-hour pet hospital?

We cannot answer this question for you without knowing what his underlying problem is. Even though he seems back to normal, the behavior he exhibited was extremely abnormal and I don't think you should assume it is nothing just because he seems better now. Whether you want to take him tonight or tomorrow that is up to you; we cannot make that call for you. You know your dog best, if you are worried you should take him to the ER.
