Why is my cat straining to pee frequently after jaw surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Exotic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 6 lbs

Last night and today I have noticed my cat squatting and going into the litter frequently and squatting with not much coming out and straining her face. She is in clavamox for a potential infection from her jaw surgery. She had her jaw pretty much wired shut as she dislocated it twice. She is eating regularly.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Brooklyn. I'm concerned about these symptoms, and they can be signs of feline idiopathic cystitis or bladder stones. Not much coming out can be very serious, and I think it's best she sees a vet now. I'd take her into one right away. I hope this helps.
