My dog's recurring skin rash needs antibiotics. Is it allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 10 months old

What is the cause of this as shown in attach photo? Is this a rash or what? He mostly had this like after every 3 months and then we need to give him cephalexin 500mg twice a day for 15 days or sometimes Augmentin 625mg twice a day..& I am against these harsh antibiotics as it's written on internet these cause kidney issues..all blood reports came normal and if this rash starts one then it dont go away with any topical cream or anything unless we give him antibiotics..what's its cure permanent?

If this is a recurring skin issue, he most likely had an underlying allergy. It could be an allergy to environmental things, or an allergy to the protein in the food. You can treat the infection, but it will keep returning if the underlying issue isn't also addressed. I would talk with your veterinarian about allergies. The antibiotics are not too harsh, and won't cause kidney damage
