My cat loves outdoors. Is it safe and how to prevent fleas naturally?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year old

Is it bad to let my cat outside? He goes out for up to 20 min about 5 times a week and is supervised to not go near any other cats or cars. He just likes to chase bugs. He’s vaccinated and I give him a shower once a week with flea shampoo (he doesn’t mind). I also check using a flea comb but haven’t found any yet. I don’t like putting the flea medicine since it seems to irritate his skin. I just want to be sure I’m not risking his health but he loves being outside and playing

I personally don't like letting cats outside, I've seen too many hit by cars or attacked by other animals. If Oreo likes going outside, you can get him a catio. It's an outdoor enclosure where the cat can enjoy the sun, but is safe and protected.
