My dog is drooling after licking cleaner or a depo shot. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I cleaned my dogs crate with “Scrub Free” cleaner after a mess. I’m worried he licked the surface afterwards. He is drooling excessively. Should I be worried? Yesterday he also got a depo shot for GI inflammation. Could this be the cause of the constant drooling?

Hello, Drooling in dogs can occur after they taste something bitter or as a sign of nausea. If Royce licked a small amount of cleaner and is now drooling, I wouldn't be too worried. I do not think he would have ingested enough to be harmful. If Royce's drooling is also associated with lethargy, disinterest in food, vomiting, or diarrhea, I would be more worried about possible continued GI inflammation that needs to be addressed by your vet. The most common side effects of a depo shot (steroid injection) are increased appetite, thirst, and need to urinate. I hope this helps.
