Should my dog get radiation for benign sebaceous cysts after surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello. I have a dog who has a number of sebaceous cysts on his body. There is one in one of his outer ear that we a planning to have surgically removed. However, in addition to surgical removal the vet proposed radiation for the area. We know from prior testing that the cysts are benign and wonder if radio surgery is necessary. Appreciate your response”. Thank you.

Radiation is generally done by a specialist and is generally used for cancerous growths. I recommend to speak with your veterinarian to clarify if this is what they want for your pup or if there has been a misunderstanding. Your vet should have not problem explaining the rational behind treatment. They want you to be on board and to voice any concerns or questions you have. If you still have questions or want a second opinion, please post again and include the explanation given to you by your veterinarian. Then hopefully we can better answer your question.
