My dog has lymphoma. How to stop her biting painful lymph nodes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed

So I just found out that my dog has lymphoma and this is the first day she is showing any symptoms. All of her lymph nodes are extremely enlarged and today she has been absolutely restless constantly itching or biting at them and just really tired, disinterested in playing, and hiding. I noticed that where her inguinal lymph nodes are her stomach is VERY red and that is where she keeps biting at most. Is there anything I can do to help her stop biting? Or is this an unavoidable cancer symptom?

Hello, I'm sorry to hear about Riley's cancer diagnosis. It sounds like some of the lymph nodes have become painful or bothersome to Riley. I would recommend contacting your vet about this. Medications to help with the pain and inflammation may help to keep her more comfortable and limit this behavior. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
