My dog is shedding a lot of hair this fall. Is this amount normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 13 lbs

I’ve been told by a vet on here that this is shedding. Fall started last week and it’s starting to get cold. Is this normal, the hair came out like this when I starting hand grooming him (I heard I should do that to help) is this an okay amount? No symptoms or bald spots. *1st picture is how it landed on the floor, 2nd is when I parted it to show how much there was and last was when I put it in a ball, this is one pile of hair not multiple.*

If you are not noticing any bald areas, redness to the skin, scabs or other signs of infection, this is all likely ok. Some dogs do shed more than others and some do not exactly cycle with the seasons. If you start to see evidence of pathology (ie bald spots, redness, etc), then have Tiny examined by the veterinarian.
