My puppy ate a baby bottle nipple. What should I do right away?

Hello, My pomsky puppy which is about 23 pounds just swallowed a baby bottle nippler. What should I do?

Hi there, and thanks for your question on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I recommend bringing Leo in to the vet right away. I've had several dogs develop GI obstructions from bottle nipples and pacifiers. If you have another piece similar to the one he swallowed, bring that to show the vet - it can also help to place it on the x-ray table next to the dog, to see what sort of density it would have on x-ray. Based on the size, shape, and density of the bottle nipple your vet can discuss with you if it might be safe to try to induce vomiting, or if you should consider endoscopic or surgical removal. Time is of the essence, as you will have better options as long as it's still in the stomach and doesn't pass into the intestines! Good luck! Hope this helps!
