Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Female | spayed | 6 years and 10 months old | 77 lbs
I just found out the freshly frozen sardine fish I’ve been given to my dog for 3 years have been soaked in brine solution for 20 minutes at -18 Celsius temp. Could the salt she has eaten these years causes any kidney or liver issue? Her last blood test was last December, liver reading normal, urea on the high end but vet say it might be due to her raw diet as her urinalysis and SDMA was normal. No kidney disease symptoms. I’m going to buy fresh sardine from now on, no brine solution.

Hello, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Excessive salt isn't good for dogs, just as it isn't good for most species - but as long as Mika's kidneys are working well and the salt was a manageable amount for her body to process as she ate it, and all of her lab work (especially SDMA) are normal, then she should be ok. I agree with your vet - if her SDMA and creatinine are normal, then I would not worry about a mild urea elevation. Hope this helps!
