Dog hit table, now has painful back lump & won't eat. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 11 months old | 80 lbs

Dasher has recently developed a softball sized lump on his back near his right should blade. It happened after he ran in the coffee table. It is hard, tender, but not red, and painful to touch. He has stopped eating, occasionally wants to play, but won't run, bark, or do anything except chew his bones. I have held off going to the vet because as I said some times hes almost normal. It's to the point his entire back hurts when touched. What could this be? I'm worried he may have broke a rib.

Poor Dasher. It sounds like he really hurt himself, and he's likely quite painful if he's stopped eating. It's possible there is a broken bone. I think it's best he sees a vet now, and I strongly urge you to take him into an ER vet immediately.
