Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Female | spayed | 4 years and 8 months old | 9.5 lbs
My cat has the herpes virus and has always had outbreaks in one of her eyes. For the past few months it’s just been getting worse. She’s very skittish - I’ve tried drops, she hates them and after a day or two of trying to give them to her she hides from me and the stress seems to make the outbreak worse. I’ve found a drug called Famciclovir online that say that they’re able to be given to be given orally. Would that be alright to give my cat (under supervision)

Hello, Yes, this drug can be prescribed to be given orally to cats for the treatment of herpes. I'd recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to discuss the best treatment plan for her. Special pharmacies can make oral medications in cat-friendly flavors, like tuna, and this can help make the medication experience much easier. Sometimes this disease is still going to require eye drops as well though. I'd recommend trying to train her and make the eye drop experience better with positive reinforcement, treats, toys, etc to maintain this condition best over time. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
