Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund (Miniature Smooth Haired) | Female | 11 years and 1 month old | 11 lbs

I have a miniature dachshund and she has recently been screaming and yipping and she previously had IVDD. She was paralyzed in her rear legs she recovered after a few weeks to a month but now she has been crying whenever we touch her. We don’t want her in pain but we cannot afford a vet in out current situation I’m not sure what the new issue could be but I would appreciate any help

I'm sorry that Sugar Food is having this issue and that she is in pain. It is most likely a recurrence of the IVDD. I strongly recommend you get her to a vet for an exam. At the very least she can get some pain medications, anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxers. You can't let her stay in pain and there is nothing we can recommend you give her without knowing for sure what her underlying problem is. I found this low cost vet clinic within 20 minutes of the zip code you provided. If you have financial constraints I suggest you take her there.
