My dog is aggressive on prednisone. Can I stop his meds now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 20 days old | 34 lbs

Cainan had a scab that looked more unhealthy on his ear and we took him in to our vet to ask and he said it was puppy immune deficiency so he prescribed prednisone and antibiotics. The trouble is, he started to become aggressive at the dog park today far more than an accident. We think its the prednisone but we were told to not just cut him off it. Hes only taken 2 pills of the prednisone and 1 antibiotic pill. Our vet doesnt open until monday should we stop treatment or ween him off or continue

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Cainan. I recommend continuing his medication as prescribed by his veterinarian. If he has an immune problem, he likely needs the steroids. You do need to discuss his behavior with his veterinarian as soon as possible though. In the meantime, do not take him to dog parks or around other dogs. If he becomes aggressive towards your family, I would seek veterinary care for him over the weekend. I hope this information helps!
