Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 29 days old | 3.4 lbs
Hi, my 4month old Maltese has been making strange sounds with his nose, like a reverse sneeze but it is very frequent. Should I take him to a vet?

Yes, if you are noticing a sudden change in his behavior, I recommend to have him examined. He could be experiencing an infection or have something trapped in his nose. The vet can give him medications to soothe his mucus membranes and this may help him to feel better and to lessen the physical symptoms. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Google “reverse sneezing in dogs” and make sure this isn’t what your seeing. If it is, good news! It’s almost always nothing to worry about and we do nothing about it. (If it’s coming with nasal or eye discharge, body itching, etc. see the vet to make sure its nothing more serious.)

It is not common but not alarming either. In puppies that age, I would worry about an allergic reaction or a respiratory infection if it persist or if there is change in appetite or activity. If you can record an episode and show it to your vet when they examine him, it may help.
