My dog drank Sprite. Is soda safe for dogs? What should I do now?

I caught my cairn terrier drinking stale Sprite out of a glass. I'm not sure how much he drank, but I read up on it and it said it can be deadly. What do I do?

No, Sprite is not deadly to dogs. It is not ideal for him to drink it because of the high sugar, high caffeine, etc but it will not kill him. I doubt he drank enough for it to be harmful in anyway. Just don't let him drink it on purpose. He should be fine.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Although the sprite isn't good for Mr. Weenie, it is unlikely to cause any problems. One large concern would be if the Sprite was a 'sugar free' version, in which case this can be very serious and I would call the ER in your area and read out the ingredients to them to see if any toxic components are present (for example: xylitol). Otherwise, Mr. Weenie might have a bit of an upset stomach, or might be a bit hyper from all the sugar, but should otherwise be OK. Best of luck with Mr. Weenie!
