Why does my dog have nosebleeds? Is it serious or from wasp stings?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 75 lbs

My dog for the last few weeks has been getting nose bleeds, they only last a couple of minutes and it only trickles slightly, I've held off going to the vets because its only started since she was stung a few times over a couple of days inside the mouth by wasps. The nose bleeds stopped for a good couple of weeks but then i noticed her biting at wasps and getting stung again and they've started again, is this the problem or is it something more serious and this is just a coincidence? Thank you

I recommend to have Tonnen examined as soon as you can to be safe. Nose bleeds are not normal. Being stung in the mouth should not cause a nose bleed because the two structures are separated by the hard and soft palate (the only connection is at the very back of the throat. Additionally, insect stings don't generally bleed. Nose bleeds can be related to a bleeding disorder, poisoning, a foreign object trapped in the nose, or an infection/cancer in the sinus. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I recommend bringing Tonnen to the veterinarian. These nose bleed episodes can be a clotting issues, a mass, an infection, etc. I think there is something more going on and less likely coincidence. I do recommend not letting her bite the wasps.
