My cat is sick after being outside. Why is he not eating and in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

My cat got outside the other night and was gone for a little over an hour. We couldn’t find him but he made his way home. Now he is not eating and meowing very strange. He won’t let you touch his belly and acts like it hurts when you pet him at all. His eyes are dilated. I think he is sick even though I haven’t seen but a small ball of vomit, it was brown and about the size of a quarter.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Albert. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian today. Cat fight wounds are very common after being outside. The veterinarian will examine him and look for any wounds. If there are none, laboratory work may be discussed. He may also be given fluids if he is dehydrated and pain medications to help him feel better. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to cats. I hope this information helps!
