My dog is in heat, bleeding, but not mating. Is this normal?

Dr. Melanie, I don’t mean to sound silly but you know how in tune I am with my pups. I noticed that Mia is not in the mood to mate with Asher. Of course I’m not breeding her for almost another year but I just thought it was odd. She’s already four days into her heavy bleeding (my vet told me this week) but she couldn’t care less about Asher. Is this normal? Will she be like this a year from now when she is actually matured mentally and physically to mate?

It's all good Mariah! It's not silly at all. I wouldn't worry that Mia doesn't want to mate with Asher, she isn't fully mature physically or emotionally. You don't want to mate them anyway. This sounds normal.
