My dog has an oozing, smelly bump on his back. Is it a cyst?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Springer Spaniel | Male | neutered | 4 years and 8 months old | 82 lbs

Hi I found a little bump on my dogs back and it was oozing, it smelled almost like anal gland leakage . Would it be a cyst ? Is it something I should be concerned about ? He is on prednisone atm. Thank you

The photo, unfortunately, is not clear but based on your description a sebaceous cyst is very possible. I cannot tell you if you should be concerned or not as I really can't see it and I can't feel it. It is best to have your vet check it out. It is not an emergency but just get him checked in the next few days.
