Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 2 months old

Hi my cat had another cat stab its claw into my cats eye, we took him to the vets and they gave us Cloramphenicol 0.5% w/v antibiotic drops. He went in on a thursday and was fine right up to Monday, the eye to me looked as if it was getting better, he then went in on the monday for a check up and a women vet used a very strong bright light in his eye and from then things have gone down hill. Hes eye is very blood shot and you can only now see half his pupil through a thick white haze please help

Hello. The initial antibiotic may have done its job, but there is obviously still an ongoing process. He may need a change up in antibiotics, & if the cornea is intact, a steroid medication may be necessary. Dilating the eye with atropine is a good idea, too. I would suggest testing Storm's feline leukemia & FIV status, too. Sometimes we will also put these cases on some oral medications, too. And, if the eye still will not clear up, consider a referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
