Harley has been wearing a cone due to an ear injury. This morning she jumped off the bed and we think the cone hit the ground and choked her. She hacked up some mucus and make coughing noises for a few minutes. She is breathing silently now, but when she gets excited she starts hacking again. Do we just let it heal or should we take her to the vet?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Harley. I do recommend that she sees her veterinarian. If the cone caused the coughing, you want to be sure she did not suffer a significant injury. There is also the possibility that the cone is unrelated and she has developed an upper respiratory tract infection. The signs you described are common in an infection. The veterinarian will examine her and determine how best to treat her. I hope this information helps!
