My Shih Tzu's skin infection not responding to meds. Mites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | 15 lbs

I have an 8 month old shihtzu. He has developed a pyoderma on his underside. My vet diagnosed it as a bacterial infection however antibiotics and anti allergics are not helping. Could this be a case of mites. The area is moist with pus. It would be great if you could help Thanks

Yes, Milo could be having problems with mites or allergies. When pets don't respond to treatment as expected, it can mean that the real underlying cause of disease has not been found. I recommend to have Milo examined again by the veterinarian. Milo should also wear an elizabethan collar at all times if he is licking at the lesion. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
