Why is my rabbit limping with a swollen testicle and not improving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 9 months old

His condition is not getting better. I have consulted before and as you said took him to vet, got an x ray. There is nothing wrong with his bone but there are swellings on skin on the joints of his leg. He is limbing. We are giving oral antibiotics, but no difference. He has a swollen testis. Doctor first thought it was hernia but ruled out that saying he has undescended testis. But I don’t think that explains any of this. And especially, the doctors here don’t have any idea about rabbits. Help.

Wow, this looks very serious. The left testicle is very swollen. I agree with you. This doesn't add up. He obviously has two testicles in these photos. There is not an undescended testicle. I suggest the vet take him to surgery and castrate him. A hernia into the tunic of the testicle is possible. This is not likely to resolve on it's own. Sorry, we cannot be of any additional help. We would need to examine Snowbell in person. We can only tell so much from photos and your description of events/treatment.
