My dog has diarrhea. What are home remedies if I can't afford a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 3 years and 2 months old

My 2 year old German Shepard just started getting dirraha the night before last and has gone on the carpet in home. And did it again last night. Not sure what is causing it and I’m worried. And I don’t have the money to go to a vet in person right now.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Amber. There are numerous causes of diarrhea in dogs. If she is otherwise healthy, you can try to fast her. If you withhold food for 24 hours (while providing plenty of fresh water), this can help to resolve mild cases of diarrhea by resting her GI tract. If this does not help, she starts to act sick or she develops vomiting or blood in the stool, then she will need to see a veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
