My dog ate sharp plastic. Will it pass or should I induce vomiting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 20 lbs

Please someone help me- my dog ate part of a plastic golf ball the size of a penny. It was all chewed up so the pieces felt sharp and jagged! This was almost two hours ago. I gave her two pieces of bread with coconut oil right after she swallowed it but will it pass? Should I induce vomiting? Is it safe to induce vomiting?!

No, I do not recommend inducing vomiting. The pieces could get stuck or cause trauma to Zoe's esophagus. This may pass without problem, so keep an eye on her for now, and give her one piece of bread with each meal. No more coconut oil. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, blood in her feces, anorexia, or lethargy, have her seen by a vet right away. Best of luck.
