My dog has non-pathogenic yeast. Is treatment really needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Female | spayed | 18 lbs

My 8 year old Miniature Schnauzer's most mot recent fecal sample result shows non-pathogenic yeast (Cyniclomyces guttulatus). She is not symptomatic. I have been told by our veterinarian that there is no treatment for this problem. Do you agree? It would seem beneficial to eliminate the yeast from her system.

I agree there isn't a great treatment but I have found that putting them on a probiotic will help them naturally get rid of the yeast. Some dogs never have any issue while others will some times get diarrhea. Probiotics and a bland diet are my treatments of choice for those that are symptomatic but it certainly wouldn't hurt to go ahead and put her on probiotics. I like proviable and purina fortiflora. I hope this helps!
