My dog's collar rubbed his neck raw. What can I put on it to heal?

Our dog's collar rubbed his neck raw. What can we put on it to help with healing? You can touch it without him being in pain so it doesn't seem to hurt him.

Ouch! Poor baby! I would put some Neosporin on it twice a day. I would also make sure he isn't scratching at it as this can slow healing. You can give him Benadryl if it seems itchy. If it isn't healing, I would have your vet take a look to ensure he doesn't need any oral antibiotics or other treatment. I hope this helps! https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/

    Poor guy. You can try some Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water for a few days to see if this area dries up and starts to heal. I wouldn't place any topical Neosporin but perhaps a "hot spot" spray from your local pet store can help it heal well. If it doesn't seem to be improving within 2-3 days, then its best to take him to your vet for a prescription of antibiotics. I hope that this works! Hi, my 2 yr old Dalmatian female has a slightly raw spot, smaller than a dime, on her neck, front, where her collar &/or tags have rubbed, and she's been scratching at it. It's not bleeding but it seems uncomfortable. I removed her collar for now.
If you think the lesion was caused by the collar rubbing, you can put some neosporin on it. The most important thing is to keep her from scratching. You may have to put a t-shirt or similar around her neck , so she cannot directly scratch the lesion. If the itching does not stop within 2 days or if the lesion starts to expand or ooze, you will need to stop the neosporin and take her to a veterinarian for an exam, as it may have been infected by bacteria. This could also be a fungus, in which case the neosporin will not work, If possible, wash her collar before putting it back on

Small wound on front of neck. Need to know if I should wait a few days or take him in. It was under collars so I took them off. Should I try putting a small but of neosporin on it?
Shave the hair in the area until you see healthy skin (this lesion is liskely bigger than is obvious). Disinfect with a mild wound cleanser and disinfectant. You can then put some Neosporin on it. Should the lesion get bigger or start oozing you will need to take Hank to a veterinarian for a skin exam. This could be a bacterial skin infection or fungal infection. Disinfect his collar or throw it away. Do not put another collar on your dog until it has healed.

I have a German Shepherd, she is going to be 5 months. I had a collar on her and she doesn't like it and she was scratching at it and now it is raw on the under side of her neck. What can i do? I have been putting peroxide on it. Is that okay?
Poor Mishka! Peroxide will irritate the skin further and prevent healing. It does kill germs, so to use it one time just after a wound occurs is ok, but otherwise its is not a good choice for wound care. Shave the hair from the area and you can apply some dog hydrocortisone 1% cream (available at most pet stores). Wipe it clean once a day with just plain water and a clean soft cloth. If its not looking better in 2-3 days, or if she starts itching elsewhere or the itchy area starts oozing, or is getting better or looking worse, get her to a vet sooner. You can also use tube socks on her back feet (the feet I assume she is scratching with) to soften the scratching and help minimize how much trauma the scratching is causing. Use clean tube socks that are thick enough that her nails don't poke through, and use duct tape ON THE OUTSIDE of the sock and not on her skin or fur. DO NOT USE RUBBER BANDS. Take the socks off when she goes outside so they don't get wet or dirty, and put

Poor Cooper! It sounds like you're already on the right track for ruling out issues, however, environmental allergens can also flare up this time of year which may be causing the excessive itchiness. Since that area is very badly irritated and inflamed, I definitely agree with getting into your vet ASAP. Since it's right on his neck, you can try inverting an Elizabethan (cone) collar so that the cone part covers the irritation and the neck park sits up closer around his ears, so that it doesn't rub against the irritated spot and protects it from further scratching. Keeping the area clean and dry can also help reduce any secondary infections that may take hold in the irritated skin. An over the counter allergy medication such as Benadryl can also help by reducing any irritation/itchiness, and may also have the added benefit of making him a little drowsy so he's less likely to scratch. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. She could have developed some skin irritation from her wet collar rubbing on her skin. I recommend keeping the collar off for now and not letting her swim or get wet for at least the next few days. I would not put any more neosporin or other ointments on the area, as this can trap moisture and delay healing. If the area gets worse or you notice other areas becoming affected, Kenya should be seen by a veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! It could be from extra moisture due to his collar or a skin infection. Below is a link to an antihistamine to control scratching. Ouch! Well, the first thing you need to do is get an e-collar on your pup to prevent him from continuing to scratch. If he is able to reach his face he is going to keep on making the affected area worse and worse. In terms of treatment, the area already looks mildly inflamed and infected. I would try and clip the hair around the area and clean it off with some chlorhexidine solution (or something similar to this that is available in your area). Once clean, you can certain apply some antibiotic ointment to the area daily or twice daily to encourage the healing process and prevent any additional secondary infection. Some of the creams you can obtain will also have steroids in them to help with the itchiness. If you are able to visit a vet, they will be able to provide oral antibiotics and anti-itch medications that may be more beneficial than what is available over the counter. Hope this helps!

Ouch, poor Dax. I would gently clean this with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

That regimen maybe enough for this to heal. However if the redness does not go away or it starts to have an older or discharge then Coal needs to be seen by a veterinarian. Triple anabiotic ointment is unlikely to cause any harm. However if it is put on too thick can cause irritation. If Coal acts uncomfortable, has increasing redness, or develops a discharge then he needs to be seen by his veterinarian.
