Is Fluconazole causing my kitten to itch while treating ringworm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Our 5 month old kitten has been given Fluconazole to treat what appears to be ringworm which the lady who was housing him before we adopted him said he had already been treated but it was dormant. My question is does that med cause itching as it is treating the ringworm?

No the medication itself does not cause pruritis (itching). The ringworm infection however does cause itching, especially as it is healing. Ringworm also is best treated with both a topical and oral medication for faster results. I hope that your furry friend gets rid of this ringworm infection soon! Best wishes and take care.
