Why did my German Shepherd puppy die suddenly after vomiting leaves?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | 5 months and 8 days old | 27.5 lbs

I had a german shepherd who was 5 months old. Today morning he vomited and there was food and some leaves in it, it was 4 in the morning and he slept after that so we thought we would take him to the vet in the morning, he vomited again at 7:30am so we took him to the vet immediately, he gave him some injections and a drip. It looked like he was getting better.. but after some time he wanted to vomit again so we took him to the vet again but he passed away in the car.what could be the reason?

I'm so sorry about Freddie's sudden passing. Unfortunately, without a necropsy (animal autopsy) it would be hard to say what the cause of his passing was. It is possible he was ill, got into something toxic, or had a congenital issue that caused him to pass away. If you're having trouble coping with his loss, checking out some resources such as The Rainbow Bridge where you can talk with other pet owners and create a pet memorial may help you in your time of need.
