Why does my dog gag and vomit after dry food? Can I afford a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 5.5 lbs

I have not worked for 6 months because my health is so bad. But Draco is also sick I think. And I can’t afford to take him to a vet. Everyday he does gag multiple times a day. month ago In MT he puked 7 times in one night we took him to the vet in the morning. They gave us some meds but only eight doses. Since home he only pukes 1 a week sometimes 2. And I’m giving him over counter nausea and anxiety meds for dogs But they’re not helping enough. it seem to happen after eating dry food most often

That does sound like something that needs further evaluation from a vet. In the meantime, if wet food stays down better than dry, I would feed either wet food or make the dry into a slurry with water that may be easier to digest. However, since the vomiting is still ongoing at least weekly, a vet visit to check for issues such as esophageal problems, illnesses, etc is needed.
