My dog ate chocolate and gummies. He's lethargic. ER vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Papillon | Male | neutered | 12 lbs

My dog got into the trash this afternoon and got into an empty Twix wrapper with some melted chocolate on it and a bag of gummy bears (I'm guessing he ate 3-4 of them). I checked to make sure the gummy bears didn't contain xilotol, He was normal most of the afternoon after he ate this stuff, but is now being extremely lethargic and not doing anything. He also has not pooped since this morning which was already extremely loose. Should I take him to an emergency vet?

Yes, taking him to the emergency vet is your best option. If he was a bigger dog that amount of chocolate may not have been harmful but since he is so small it might be causing him an issue. The gummies are not likely toxic if there is no xylitol but it is a lot of sugar.
