How to safely trim my untrusting parakeet's fast-growing nails/wings?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

So I have a parakeet names Bella. She will Not trust me no matter what and I felt it would not be safe to try to get her wings clipped or her nails clipped. I have noticed tho that her wings and toe nails are growing rapidly and I want to know what to do because she won’t come onto my hand unless i offer treats and once she has finished eating of me she will hop off my hand. What can I do? Can we somehow sedate her safely and risk free to clip nails and possibly wings?

Thanks for reaching out. If her nails are long, they need to be clipped whether at a veterinary clinic, an animal groomer or at home. If nails growing long rapidly, this could be an indication of a liver disease, so a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Try to train her to enter and be comfortable in the transport cage. Good luck.
