My puppy has mites: How long to confine & can other dogs get them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkipoo | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 9 days old | 3.3 lbs

My puppy was diagnosed with cheyletiella mites. She was treated with revolution a week ago. Ive been keeping her confined in my kitchen for easy cleaning and decontamination. How long do you think I should have her confined. When do you think it will be safe to let her roam my apartment again? The rest of my apartment was treated with Knockout. Also can other dogs contract the mites? Even if they are routinely treated with heartworm, flea and tick medications?

She is probably fine to roam around the apartment after confining her for about 72 hours of the Revolution application. I would recommend you continue with Revolution dosing every 3 weeks for a few more treatments. These mites are very contagious to other dogs but since she has been treated, the house has been treated and the other dogs are on prevention they will probably not contract the mites.
