Did my vet say to give my dog adult Benadryl, or something else?

I asked my vet and I don't remember if she told me to give her an adult Benadryl, does that sound right or did she reccommend something else?

While Benadryl can be used in specific conditions in dogs, I can't say if it's safe or appropriate to use on Chloe. That's illegal for me to do so. You will have to give your vet a call back to see if they did recommend using Benadryl or not. Best of luck!

No, it is never safe to give a dog human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal as given. As for Benadryl, it is not licensed for use in dogs and should only be used when specifically prescribed by a vet and under a vet's supervisor, neither of which I can give you because it's illegal for me to do so without seeing her in person. You can bring Maggie into your vet to discuss using Benadryl, and the vet can let you know if it's safe and appropriate to use for her symptoms. The vet can also give you the dose information.

I was wondering if it is alright to give Children's Benadryl to my several month old Pomeranian
No, I would not give this to Lexi. It's never recommended to self treat your dog, as you may accidentally do harm to them. In addition, it may not be safe to give to her based on her health status. Finally, it may not be the appropriate drug for her symptoms. Because the experts at Boop by Petco cannot see Lexi in person, it is illegal for us to say if a drug is safe to give to her or not. I recommend giving your vet a call to see if they feel it's safe to give her Benadryl. They can give you the correct dose if they feel it's safe.

You should really have your dog examined by a veterinarian to find the cause of the itching, whether it is an allergy, or infection. As for giving your dog benadryl, you should contact your vet's office for a recommendation as we are not in a position legally to give out dosages. In order to do legally so we would have to have a patient-veterinarian-owner relationship with you. Your veterinarian also knows your dog and the potential risks for your dog receiving this medication.

Bentley should see a vet for his itching so that the cause of it can be diagnose in order to treat him properly. This itching could be caused by fleas, mites, ringworm, or allergies. If he isn't up to date on his flea treatment, he will need a spot on treatment such as Advantage or Revolution. You will need to disinfect the environment as well. The vet can do blood tests, skin scrapings, and use a Wood's lamp to diagnose allergies, mites, and ringworm. Once the cause of the itching is found, the vet can prescribe the appropriate treatment. Yes, you can do that as it has been almost 6 hours since her dose of chlorpheniramine. You don't want to dose them any closer together than that. If she is really 134 pounds she will need quite a large dose of Benadryl. The dose is 1-2 mg/# so essentially she needs at least 134mg. It comes in 25mg capsules. So, I suggest you give her 150mg or 6 capsules. People always balk at this but dogs take a much higher dose than humans due to the way they metabolize it so yes, I really did say 6 capsules. My vet recommended Benadryl for my dog for her itching and environmental allergies but she doesn't appear to be having any itching right now. Her eyes sometimes would get bloodshot, would Benadryl help with that? I'm wondering if I should temporarily
If Chloe seems to be doing well I would suggest that you do discontinue the Benadryl. Dogs actually will build up a tolerance to the Benadryl if given consistently over a period of time. At that time it will either stop working or she will need more to get the same effect. You can always start it up again. The probiotic may help with allergies believe it or not so you can definitely do that - it will not hurt anything and might help. I like Fortiflora but you can use any probiotic made for dogs (not human ones or dairy). I do not have any first hand experience using this product but I have had a lot of people tell me it works well for allergies: http://www.dinovite.com/ You can also add the fish oil if you want to as well. I would give your vet a call to see if it's safe to give Dustin Benadryl, and the vet can give you the correct dose for it. I would also wash him in warm water and Dawn dish soap to get rid of the ants, and you can make a home soothing salve to help with the bites from the ants if he has them using baking soda and water. To make this salve, mix one tablespoon of baking soda and add enough water to form a spreadable paste.
