My husband ran a new adult cow through the shoots today to change her ear tag, administer a vaccine, and brand her. In the process, she knicked the lateral portion of one front hoof. It bled for a little bit, but clotted pretty quick. Should we be worried about anything or take precautions for anything?

This will depend on where on the hoof she nicked it. I would wash and scrub the hoof with water and then apply a disinfectant spray to the cut. You will need to watch the hoof for infection and lameness. If the cow starts to go lame, do not wait for it to go away by itself, because it will not. Call out a vet, as she likely will need prescription antibiotics, pain medicine and thee injury may have to be debrided to facilitate healing.
