Should I massage my cat to increase milk for her new kittens?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 10 months and 23 days old | 8 lbs

My queen had her kittens yesterday. She had 5. I'm getting a new scale in a few hours because i feel the one i have is not efficient(its a pocket scale). I know that aurora(queen) is producing milk because I gently squeezed the back nipple(internet said usually the best example to check) and a white dot appeared. A friend told me there is a massage that you do (similiar to human massage) to help increase or "let down" the milk production. Can you tell me the proper way?

By suckling the kittens stimulate the mammary glands and also the production of oxytocin, which lets down the milk. This should be sufficient. If she does not produce enough milk (the kittens will whine and their bellies will not be round and full), then you should take her and the kittens to your vet for an exam. However, looking at your photos, the kittens look happy and mama does, too. You will not need this massage, which is not something that is advisable.
