Is two-month-old Virkon disinfectant safe and effective for pets?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 9 lbs

I made up a lot of Dupont Virkon with water two month ago and I am doing clean now for regular cleaning, but is the Dupont Virkon still work? I save the Dupont Virkon water in a airtight watering can. Thank you for your reply.

It is likely not as effective as it was when it was fresh, after two months. I would not rely on it to properly disinfect your premises anymore. If you want to use it for regular cleaning, you can, but be aware that you will need to make a new batch of disinfectant if you want to disinfect your premises. Virkon should be used up within a few days days to be 100% effective. https://www.drugs.com/vet/virkon-disinfectant-cleaner-p-w-s-can.html
